Without the right tutor, everything else that we do is irrelevant. We match the right tutor to the right student.

Students who connect with and look up to their tutors will naturally want to do well and impress – this is why we work so hard to find, train, and nurture our tutors. At Genius, successful tutor applicants must not only be academically brilliant, but they need to be the kind of people who care about making a difference. We admit it: we expect a lot from our tutors, which is why only 3% of applicants with As in matric actually make it through our vetting and training programme.

After teaching English in Vietnam in 2007, she moved back to South Africa where she studied while running a small nursery and pre-primary school. Shannon holds a BSocSci undergraduate & an Honours BSocSci in Psychology (Cum Laude). She is currently studying a Masters in Counselling Psychology (UP).

Liso matriculated with four distinctions. She has a first class honours in tax technical and compliance (UCT). Liso is currently a tax associate at PWC.

Armando achieved 6 distinctions in his matric year, as well as top student for English. He achieved colours for academics and public speaking, as well as Vice Captain for basketball and head of Model UN. He is currently in his final year at Wits, studying a BSc in Computer Science as his double major with Psychology and Philosophy as his minors. Armando loves reading and would like to write and design his own video game after university.

She went on to complete a BSc (with distinction) majoring in Physiology, Psychology and Genetics at UNISA where she achieved the top achiever award. She really enjoys mountain trail running and recently completed a 100km trail running race.

After this, Megan completed a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (with Cum Laude), also at Stellenbosch University. She then went on to live and teach in Budapest, Hungary, for 18 months. Megan is an EL at Genius and is tutoring English, Geography and Afrikaans

Obakeng graduated from Curro Thatchfield High School with an outstanding achievement of 7 distinctions. Following this, he pursued his degree in Computer Engineering at UP. Notably, he held the positions of President of the SRC and Dux Scholar during his time at Curro. In his leisure hours, Obakeng finds enjoyment in playing soccer and hitting the gym.

Alexia is an English tutor with Genius. She matriculated from Roedean School (SA) where she achieved 5 distinctions as well as Music Honours and Public Speaking Colours. She was also the Head of various musical groups and the Vice-Captain of the squash team. Alexia is currently a second-year student at the University of Cape Town, where she is studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Law and English. Siphiwokuhle

Zulu, Mathematics and English

Siphiwokuhle, also known as Kuhle, is a English, Math, and Zulu tutor at Genius. He excelled in his matric exams, achieving 6 distinctions, and served as the head boy of his high school. Kuhle was placed in the top 1% in IEB English. Additionally, he earned full academic, cultural, and sporting colors for three consecutive years, a remarkable achievement known as the triple crown. Currently, Kuhle is pursuing a degree in BCom Law at Wits. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing football, guitar, and reading.
